Good question. This energy starts off in the sun’s centre, it’s core. This is the hottest part of the sun (about 15 million degrees Celsius!). Energy, in the form of light and heat, is created in the super-hot core and travels to the surface of the sun. It takes a long time to do this, which means the surface of the sun is cooler than its core, about 6,000 degrees Celsius, so still pretty toasty!

This energy then travels through space to the earth, in a speedy journey taking only 8 minutes. After that, we get to enjoy all of that sunlight and heat (as long as there’s no horrible grey rain clouds around!).
