One of the main ways people purify water in labs is using something called ‘distilling’. Distilling is when you put the dirty water inside a closed box and heat up the box so the water boils. All of the water in the box evaporates and turns from a liquid into a gas. Anything that isn’t water (the dirty parts) stays at the bottom of the box. Then, the water condenses (turns back from a gas to a liquid) on the top of the box and is collected using a pipe. There you have pure water!
