I wanted to study neuroscience at university which wasn’t a degree available in any of the universities in Hong Kong. I also thought that gaining some experience of living away from home and experiencing a different culture would be good for my future. Hong Kong is really small, so I was itching to get away for a bit having lived there since I was born. Some of my relatives also lived in the UK and their kids (my cousins) had gone to university in London, which made the transition slightly less intimidating for me.

I have always lived in England and Wales – but I did work in the US for a while in Iowa and in Palo Alto, California.

I was born and brought up in Scotland, and spent 18 months living and working in Germany. I came back to Scotland because my wife and I wanted to be closer to our families, and we wanted our daughter to have a Scottish education.

I was actually born in New York when my Dad was working over there so I have a US as well as a UK passport. I have lived in the UK since I was little though. I had looked at going to study in one of the American universities but the distance and the cost would have been too much. I would like to work abroad, maybe in Europe. I think life is too short to spend it in one country – I love travelling though so maybe I’m a bit biased!
