There is a variety of ways that you can analyse a compound from a visual inspection that takes a couple of minutes to extracting the compound and running it through a high performance liquid chromatography machine that could take a long time maybe a whole day to generate the data needed to analyse. The part that normally takes the longest is the preparation of the analysis, making sure everything associated with the analysis is precise and will not cause any unwanted results generated.
