Scientists believe dinosaurs became extinct due to an event that happened about 65 million years ago. We don’t know exactly what that event was, but the prevailing theories are either due to an asteroid hitting the Earth, or a massive increase in volcanic activity. Recently, a new study using fossils uncovered from the seabed seems to indicate that an asteroid impact was a more likely cause of the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.

Interesting how new techniques are showing us more about very old questions – commenting on the fossil experiments and the asteroid point in Dawns answer.
