• Question: do you work with other scientists to gather data from your spacecraft

      Yes, it is a big, international collaboration. The whole collaboration is organised by the European Space Agency (ESA). They have their own teams that launch the spacecraft and “fly” them – these are the “operations” team.

      I’m part of the science team which is a separate team of all the people who helped to build the scientific instruments on the spacecraft. This is a large team from 14 different European countries, plus the USA who decide what experiments to do with the spacecraft and do all of the analysis of the data.

      For one experiment I had a web discussion yesterday with people from Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France (fortunately they all speak English much better than I speak German, Italian or French)
