I think being a doctor would have been interesting, and extremely challenging! During university I did some work experience at hospitals and found it quite fun but also completely exhausting. I think the intellectual challenge of being a doctor is fun, but I couldn’t really deal with the upsetting side of it (I worked at an oncology/cancer ward). As for being a journalist, I could be a science journalist, I suppose! I still think being on this side of science and doing research is more fun.

I think either could be fun for the right person. Both are difficult in different ways. I don’t think I could write well enough quickly enough to be a journalist, but getting to see so many different things would be exciting.
