I really love it! Anyone can be a scientist, and if you are interested in how things work and asking questions then you are a scientist too. In some ways having a job as a scientist is just like a normal job: I still have to send emails and I still have to go to meetings with my boss. But for me it’s like doing your favourite subject at school all day, which is really fun. It can sometimes also be tiring but so can any job. I feel very proud of what I do and I’m proud to be a scientist.

I love bringing a scientist as I get to keep learning new things that I see around me that I find interesting. I can spend hours on the internet reading about new ideas and then trying them out for myself in the lab. Not everything always works first time so it can sometime be tough to keep on trying and not get down about your failures but it is a great feeling when you do finally get something right.

I think it mostly feels the same for me as it would for anyone doing a job they enjoy, I just get on with whatever work I’m doing that day and mostly enjoy doing it.

But then there are definitely moments in the lab when I’m using a cool piece of equipment or some chemicals I’d never get to go near if I wasn’t a scientist and I kind of have a moment of “Wow most people don’t get to do this! It’s awesome that I do because I’m a scientist!”

Probably a lot of jobs have moments like that, where you realise that because of your job you know something most people don’t or you get to do something other people can’t.
