We typically take off the honey in the summer, this year we got about 15L of honey.
The reason we take off honey in the summer is that bees typically use honey as a food source during the winter, the way I like to think about it is the way we store cans of food in the cupboard, bees store honey as a food source for overwintering and when there isn’t a lot of flowers around (typically in the winter and sometimes in June – it is known as the ‘June gap’ amongst beekeepers).
