You can develop new plants through breeding. This is how you get all the different types of apples for example. You may like the look of green apples but prefer the taste of red apples. Therefore, to make the perfect apple for you that is green but tastes like a red apple, you can take a green apple plant and a red apple plant and transfer pollen between the two of them. When they then produce apples you can choose which one you think is the best tasting and looking for you. The seeds from this apple then can be planted and when it produces apples it should have a lot more apples like the ones you want (green but taste like red). Again you can collect the seeds from these apples and plant them. Eventually, you will get an apple tree that only grows the apples you like (all green but taste like red) and then you can give it a new name as it will be it’s own special apple type.
