No idea off the top of my head. Had a quick look online and apparently carrots are in the top 10 most economically important vegetables, with China being the largest producer.
Carrots are a healthy food and eaten all around the world, so obviously an important food crop.. not sure that carrots alone can save the world though!
You have to have many carrots actually, i.e. you have to innovate and do research in many different topics at the same time. And not just research, but also infrastructure, i.e. build roads and storehouses for food. In areas with few roads a lot of food spoils because it cannot be transported off the field. Storage conditions for grains, fruits and meat is often suboptimal in developing countries, which leads again to a lot of food being lost. Food wastage in developed countries (that’s us) is high and should be reduced. At the same time, we need to get smarter agriculture going that produces more food with less inputs.
It’s a huge task and all people have to work together to make it a planet you can live on.
