I like to think so! as the numbers of people increase there will be less room at ground level I guess. materials are becoming lighter so its just finding a different fuel (thats sustainable)
I kind of hope so… might be fun? Car crashes could be a bit messier though, so maybe it’s not a great idea.
I don’t know much about cars (or making things fly), but my guess would be that even if someone makes a flying car, the idea won’t take off (excuse the pun) as well as erm… land cars have done. I think mainly because of the problems with crashing and stuff. I’m sure a flying car would be more difficult to control than a normal car because it can go in all directions not just forward/back/left/right etc.
I could be wrong though! I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
For the reasons Gemma said, I hope cars never fly. Unless we have bouncy soft little blimps that don’t go fast and can’t do any harm when they collide. How likely is that? Anyway if you like stylish flying cars go rent the classic film Blade Runner.
I would love to go to an age where things are like they are in the Jetsons! Although watching the Jetsons with their flying vehicles and buildings built on high columns made me wonder what might have caused them to do it!
As for flying cars in the real world: I found this funny hybrid: http://www.terrafugia.com/ and the Skycar here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElS9BKSsezw. Both of these are working models but not economical at all. I think with fossil fuels becoming more expensive by the day we might not have a flying car like we imagine today.
