We already use ethanol in many places. I used to favor bio fuel but I’ve heard a lot of worrying things about it, like how much water and conventional fuel are consumed to make bio fuel. My guess is it will become very important but there are technological, economic and political problems to solve 1st.
Hmm, I’m not sure because this isn’t my area, but I did write a news story for a science magazine once about how biofuels aren’t the answer to cutting carbon emissions…
I think the problem was that the carbon released through farming and transporting the biofuels was actually going to outweigh the carbon saved through using them instead of conventional fuels.
it is ualready used but its not energy efficient, either the processes can be made more efficient or other fuels(and power generation) will be considered as oil prices rise. i think there will be a shift in what cars run on, but not sure it will be to biofuels.
