As synthetic chemists, we certainly do have access to enough chemicals to make a small bomb. But that does not mean we will ever do it. All scientists respect a certain code of conduct. 🙂

No, I work in medical research. I wouldn’t want to make a bomb!

Anyone can make a bomb. I bet you most bombs don’t accomplish whatever the bomber intended (unless it was only noise, fire and mayhem). Bombs don’t get their victims to do anything the bomber wants (unless it was only to die), and bombers aren’t admired by anyone. In order to really change anything we need sociological “bombs” which are ideas, like democracy, civil rights, environmentalism etc. that start small (a few talkers and writers) and eventually blow through society.

I didn’t even think of this doing my undergraduate degree but I’ve done enough chemistry that I COULD, but don’t think I WOULD…

I’ve no need to make a bomb (not that there are many reasons why you would need to) plus I’m kind of clumsy so I’d just blow myself up haha!!

With the right set of ‘ingredients’ and knowledge, anyone could (though its out of the remit of my project!) – but in line with Judith’s response, just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean that you SHOULD.
