      It is, at the most fundamental level, the interactions between the electrons in atoms. They either share themselves between the atoms, forming a chemical bond, or split themselves apart from each other breaking a chemical bond. Chemistry is the study of these processes for all of the different types of atom there are, which are listed in the periodic table.
