If I had the time I would (no pun intended). In a way though a particle accelerator is like a time machine, a window back into how the Universe used to be in the distant past. From a high energy beginning the Universe has been expanding and cooling, getting less energetic, ever since. By going to high energies it is as if we are reversing time and viewing what happened billions of years ago.
The Large Hadron Collider has so much energy when it collides protons that it recreates conditions not seen since the first second of the Universe.
