Erm it has been 10 years since I was in school and I think there has to have been changes. I’d need to attend a class and see for sure…but I don’t want to go back to school :s

I’m not sure really… I get the impression there might not be so much practical work done now just from some of the stuff the students have been saying this week. And I maybe also get the impression there is more time given to thinking about the ethical and societal implications if science, which is great but hopefully not at the expense of teaching science itself. I don’t know if either of these observations is right though. Any teachers out there have views on this?

From what my wife tells me about maths and science, I think its pretty much the same, although there is more focus now on learning problem solving skills and applying what your learning. Also I agree with Peter, we never had anything like this when I was at school, but we did have the Maths challenge which is still going.

One of the things I really like is the Cipher challenge, which is just amazing, I enjoy doing it now, but I would have loved that kind of thing when I was at school. If you haven’t heard about it there are some details here.
