Its is currently the best theory we have as all things seem to point back to a common beginning, right now we have solid physics theories up to 0.0000000000000000000000000000000001 seconds after the big bang but we have no theory to explain the very moment of the Big Bang itself explicitly. The Universe certainly did start from a very small region though and expanded rapidly – which is the main bit of the Bang.
In short I think the expansion of the Universe from a very small point is real but as to the exact start of the Universe in that first tiny fraction of a second… the game is on to understand it more.
We don’t – as I have said we don’t know exactly what went on at the very heart of the Big Bang, or indeed in the centre of black holes. There are many theories, God is just one of these theories – not a based in science as most but still.
