I’m lucky that I just got a promotion, and so I’m happy with my position at the moment. If I go any higher up then I’m getting into project management and running scientific projects, which I’m not ready for yet, so where I am is just right for me.
I would love to get a permanent position – preferably becoming a lecture at a UK University. Life of a postdoctoral researcher is always in the balance with ~2 year contracts and no definite position at the end of the contract – I have been very lucky so far at Queen Mary, I just hope my luck lasts out until a permanent position.
