      At the moment I am a lowly research associate 😉 – I have aspirations to get a permanent lecturer position. I still have a lot of ladder to climb.

      I depends how broadly you define “field”! Of my particular niche I’m doing pretty well 🙂

      Well, I chose not to carry on in research and took a different direction with my career, deciding to work in the funding/policy area. Career-wise I’m doing just fine for the stage I’m at now, but I’m not the big boss round here! (yet, mwwahahahahah).

      In my specialist area I’m doing pretty well, but its difficult to tell really, there are at least a thousand other people doing similar jobs to me around the world, and knowing where you are on that scale is almost impossible.
