      Great question.

The strangest result would have been to do with something that you can measure in the blood. When we were taking blood samples (and expected to see a certain response), we didn’t record any change in this particular substance.

When we looked a little further, and performed an ultrasound test, we found that the person was contracting their muscles so forcefully that they stopped any blood flowing past the muscle site.

The funniest result involved skin preparation that I had to perform to all participants in a certain study. I had to shave parts of the leg, to make a better contact area for electrodes (measure electrical activity under the skin). All my participants happened to be from a rugby team, and the study was 6 months long. For an entire season, they were running around the pitch during each game with bald patches on their legs. They had a few comments directed at them!
