Bioluminescence means a chemical reaction that produces light (in other words, light energy is a result of certain chemical reactions). A good example (the dictionary gives it – I’m not trying to be clever here), is a firefly. Chemical (biochemical) reactions that happen inside the firefly’s body cause the glow to occur that you see in the night time.
