i watched that too!

Some programs don’t give you all the information.
I would say milk is better than drinking energy drinks. That’s because all the energy drinks are is just sugar, which your body should not need as long as you have eaten proper meals in the day.
So I would say the program is correct in saying milk is better than an energy drink. But drinking it before you exercise I’m not sure about.

Unfortunatly, Fiona you are incorrect. Milk is definitely not good for you during any form of long duration exercise and no matter how good a meal you have you will start to run out of glucose (which is a sugar). This is why you drink energy drinks during long exercise. Milk is not predominantly a carbohydrate (sugar) and therefore is probably not the best. For example, you don’t see footballers or tour de France riders drinking milk at half time or on the bike. What show was this. Perhaps they were talking about weight training and putting on muscle…?
Fiona commented on :
I did not mean to use milk as an energy drink, but as a source of protein and fat. So yes I would agree with you that for energy for exercise you would need an energy drink or better yet a source of carbohydrates in a meal.
But in terms of afterwards or for the muscles themselves milk would be better than an energy drink due to the protein and fat.
Justin commented on :
no sorry fiona the source of carbohydrate in a meal is not as good for you during exercise. it normally has a poor absorption rate and the wrong type of carbohydrate for maximum metabolism. Perhaps after exercise you could use full fat milk for for muscle/tendon growth/repair but if you are doing long duration exercise you are probably not after muscle growth but the ability to perform long duration exercise again. Thus, you would then be better off taking on carbohydrate in a meal to replace glycogen stores. Classic Elite performance physiology!!!!!
