Genes, environment (mostly the food you eat) and time! If you have two tall parents, you are also likely to be tall (that’s largely genetic), if you have a good diet then your growth will reach its full potential.
Like Mark says, your genes will go a long way to determining if you will be tall as well as what you put into your body. Also, if you have any diseases or illnesses whilst you are developing, this can affect how tall you grow. This means that in richer countries, if we have ‘tall genes’ we are more likely to grow tall than people in poorer countries who might have poor nutrition and more risk of diseases like rickets or polio.

a combination of nature versus nurture. Nature doesn’t always win – I’m the shortest person in my family by a very long way. And I love it 🙂
