      Another good question. When players reach the upper limits of performance, very small things make the difference between success and failure. Exactly as you say, motivational factors, ability to ‘read’ the game, psychological prepartion and other similar factors start to become even more important. Fitness will still play a role, but it has long been known that this is important for success in sport. The knowledge that psychological factors also contribute a large amount is still fairly novel thinking and at the moment is an area where elite athletes can focus their attention and see big gains.
