Telepathy and telekinesis are really just about the powers of suggestion and the ‘magician’ who’s doing the trick being able to manipulate your perseption of what you think is happening… If you’re interested in that sort of thing you should read the book ‘Quirkology’ by Richard Wiseman. He fascinated by things like that and it’s a very good read!

Agree with Jenni, Richard Wiseman is a great source for this. Derren Brown also. Psychics often use “cold reading” or prior knowledge to convince people. Here is a great YouTube interview that outlines cold reading: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xswt8B8-UTM

Prior knowledge would be Googling you or finding your family connections on the internet. Telekinesis is definitely not possible, and telepathy is a mix of fraud and skill on the part of the reader, and often wishful thinking on the part of the one being “read”.

Agree with Jenni and Mark here – the problem is that some people become so good at cold reading that they start to believe they have special “powers”.

One of the top 100 psychologists of the century is called Paul Eckman http://www.paulekman.com/, who specialises in all the very tiny movements we make in our faces when we feel certain emotions – what he calles “microexpressions”.

He now trains people how to read all these microexpressions to work out what someone is thinking and especially when they are lying: it’s called FACE training http://face.paulekman.com/default.aspx.

There was even a TV series based upon his work called Lie to Me. If you knew how to read these microexpressions I am sure that you would be able to pretend you were telepathic to lots of people!
