      Good question. Titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio, however the absolute strongest would be carbon. In diamond form it is the hardest, and as carbon fibres it has the higest tensile strength. However, people don’t tend to use elements alone but compounds such as Aramid polymers (Kevlar) or composites of many materials (e.g. carbon fibre re-enforced Kevlar). Not sure on strength values though.
