Question: if the Titanic was said to be 'unsinkable' then how come it hit an iceberg and sank? did the people onboard think that the Titanic could go through an iceberg?
I don’t think it was planned to hit the iceberg and i’m not sure they would have thought that the titanic would be able to go through it. I think what happened was that the iceberg was under water and the captain did not know it was there. Or the captain was having a sleep and didn’t see it approaching.
It was said to be unsinkable but no one had actually tested the theory. It was just a freak collision that happened at the right (or wrong) angle to cause maximum damage. The weather was so bad that they didn’t see the ice berg until it was too late.
i think that was false advertising! I don’t think the titanic was ever unsinkable..it was made out thousands of tonnes of steel! I think that people in the early 1900s when the ship was built were so amazed they let their imaginations run away with them when they read all the stories about this “amazing ship” in he newspapers etc.
When it hit an iceberg a big hole was put in the ship which made it sink…I dont think the people thought it could go through it..I think they just didn’t see the ice berg in time and when they did it was to late to steer the ship away from it! watch the film and you will lean more :).
