Because its a good way to try and predict what might come out! And when! This could save lots of people lives if we could give them warning, and it would also help people plan how to manage their lives when there is a risk of volcanic eruptions. Some people in the world actually live on volcanoes, so imagine if we could tell them – hey! watch out! in three days time this volcano will erupt! Also, aeroplanes can’t fly through volcanic ash that gets spewed into the atmosphere, and without airports running well, entire countries can get clogged and it wastes a huge amount of money. If we could warn governments and countries, they’d be able to plan how to deal with it and not waste so much money.
