The smallest star is called a brown dwarf – these things are almost planets and almost stars, somewhere in between. There are two a few light years from the Earth. The smallest actual star that burns hydrogen properly is called a “red dwarf” – apparenty the smallest one we’ve seen is called OGLE-TR-122b, which is about the size of Jupiter.
