We don’t know. Global warming could be a problem unless we fix it, and we need to work to stop more species becoming extinct, to stop pollution, and so on. We’re getting better at it, but we need to work harder, and stop future problems coming up. As technology gets better, we’re more able to harm our planet with it, but we’re also becoming better at realising the effects of our actions. We’ve already got international laws protecting the ozone layer from being destroyed any more, so there’s hope. But things like global warming are a big problem because the world’s economy still relies on burning oil. Replacing that will be a big problem, because we need to make a replacement that makes as much energy as oil or more and is as cheap. Hopefully we’re getting there, but whether we’ll get there in time to avoid serious global warming I don’t know.

The problem with this is we have no data to compare stuff to!

We know we are having an effect, but we aren’t sure exactly in what way, or what will be the consequences. We don’t have a set of the previous earth’s data to compare to, when the last humans did this sort of stuff. Which makes answering these questions quite difficult.

One thing that we do know is that the ecosystem is a pretty chaotic system, in a sensitive balance. And one thing that we are hopefully starting to learn is that it’s not a good idea to poke the bear.

Ha ha! Depends on who you talk to, and what you want to happen! For instance, if sea level rises hundreds of millions of people who live near sea level will lose their homes. Also, huge areas of food growing areas will be destroyed. This is all verr bad news for us as a species and a planet. However, some people think that if the world heats up enormous areas that are now frozen could be used to grow food, and live on. What seems likely is that we will get far more extreme weather, simply because there is more energy in the earths oceans and atmosphere. So, more hurricanes (we call them cyclones in the southern hemisphere), more firestorms, more flooding etc etc. Also was seems likely is that good or bad this is happening and happening very fast – so we need to make ourselves prepared for changes now!

Probably both. Like the past, some of it was good for us (the dinosaurs being killed off) and some of it was not so good (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/aug/05/medieval-volcano-disaster-london-graves)

The only thing is to do what we already do.
