• Question: I want to go into medicine and agree that finding cures for diseases would not only be interesting but rewarding. However, I have if you like an underlying ethical issue with the idea of keeping people alive who naturally would have not. It feels like an awful thing to say but with so many issues with population, do you not feel that such diseases, although tragic, may be necessary? I don't mean to doubt your work simply trying to see if I really should be pursuing this career.

@liv – Very thoughtful question. I don’t disagree with the fact that the planet is probably populated to the extent that we are exerting an unsustainable pressure to the resources of our planet. Perhaps a control of population growth is one solution! However, i also believe in easing the pain of people and helping people recover from tragic situations. At the end of the day, i believe your decision about studying medicine should depend on what really motivates you and what you see yourself doing in the future. If you having doubts about the ethics of this profession (for whatever reason), then perhaps you should consider a different career. Hope this helps!
