Something that would be quite exciting for me personally to see is if computational chemistry codes start running really effectively on GPUs (rather than CPUs as they tend to do now) This would mean we could massively reduce calculation time and would increase the possibilities of the systems we could look at with better accuracy immensely.

I hope someone makes a breakthrough with renewable energy sources. As the fossil fuels we currently use for most of our energy is running out, we need to find another way to power our lifestyles and quick!
I hope that there will be a way to improve solar/wind/geothermal/tidal power (amongst others) so that we can reduce the number of carbon emissions that are contributing to global warming and also stop polluting the air as much!

I hope we will be able to fight major diseases – it would be great to see the cancer mortality reduced by new advances in diagnosis and prognosis

I really don’t know! It’s like looking into a crystal ball… What I hope to happen is that we get more people enthused and excited by science, and that we have the capability to employ more people in science-related industry. It stands to reason that the more people working on it, the faster progress will be…. I want the future, and I want it now!

Thinking about the future, aren’t we all supposed to be wearing silver suits and travelling to work on jetpacks by now? To quote Yogi Berra (the baseball catcher/coach, not Yogi Bear, the cartoon character!) “The future ain’t what it used to be…”

It would be interesting to invent an invisibility cloak, something that is currently being researched on at the moment. It would be so great to use it to prank people, thinking that ghosts are real!
