I used to work for my parents (they sell books) so I’d get to read hundreds of books while pretending to check they weren’t damaged in any way! I also worked at a cafe many years ago but I’ve only really ever been a student!
I was a data entry clerk as a teenager. Dull, but well paid.
I worked in a pub in East London during my undergraduate days; poorly paid, but great fun.
I then was sponsored for three years to do my PhD, at the end of which I started a business in photography to help pay the bills while I wrote my PhD thesis – great fun, not badly paid, but I risked losing a hobby
I then did postdoctoral research in a physics department, and that then pretty much brings me up to date
Before becoming lecturer I was a postdoctoral research associate in three different universities: Imperial College London, Perugia (Italy) and East Anglia
