Studying for a PhD takes around 3 years of reasearch, followed by writing a book, called a “thesis” to communicate what you have learned/discovered over the course of your research. My thesis was around 300 pages and took me far too long to write! (about 6 months!)

That said, it depends entirely on the person doing the PhD – some people can be done quickly, while Dr Brian May (you may have seen him on Sky at Night, and campaigning for badgers) – who took 35 years out in the middle to tour with his rock band probably had the longest PhD term! (to be fair, they did quite well for themselves! You’ll have heard of Queen I’m sure!)
