When my accent is commented on by people, I frequently respond with “I don’t have an accent. It’s everyone else that sounds funny…”

Some might say I have an accent, but because I’ve been all over for the past 25 years, my accent is somewhat confused!

I have a bit of a mish mash of accents…I’ve been living in Nottingham for 7 years, so that influences my accent quite a lot and my boyfriend is from Cambridge so I have to tone down my northern accent quite a lot for him! But whenever I talk to my family or friends from back home, I sound a bit like Gary Barlow or the cast of Coronation Street!

Well, I have a Maltese accent, which is a culmination of the Italian accent meeting an arabic one. It is quite strange at first, but people tend to get used to it pretty quickly.

I suspect mine’s a bit of a mish mash of a few these days. It did take a while for me when I came back from Japan to not occasionally slip into using Japanese-style grammar for English sentences which had some hilarious results.
