Going to university I almost flipped a coin between chemistry and physics, and really it was my chemistry teacher that made the difference.

Ultimately I became a chemical physicist – that is I work on the boundary between chemistry and physics, and indeed my postdoctoral research was actually done in a physics department.

Biology was the one i didn’t really ‘get’ at school. Can’t say why, I just didn’t click with it. That said of course, even though my research was in a physics department, it was there that I learned how to culture cells! (Yes, I worked with lasers and cells together!)

Chemistry!!! I love watching reactions happen and there’s no other subject that will let me go into schools and set off dry ice canons!!

This is the easiest question ever for me; Chemistry hands down. I never enjoyed studying physics, while I had clashed with my Biology teacher at A level cos she wanted me to become a doctor and from that point on I could never see Biology in a positive light again.

I’m another chemical physicist so I guess my answer is obvious! I don’t really like studying biology directly but I often do use biologically relevant molecules (like my frog suncreen) in my work as understanding exactly how these systems function is very important.
