The first experiment I did was to try and measure the element sulfur in small sections of Moon rock that contained a special crystal (mineral) called apatite. The measurements had never been done before so it was really exciting. At the same time, because Moon rocks are so precious, I had to be very careful not to damage the samples that had been loaned to me by NASA!
I think my first ever experiment was mixing washing up liquids in a mug to see if i’d get any crazy chemical reactions, but that was when I was about 5…
The first experiment/research I was paid to do was to look at how a spacecraft could survive at Venus. Venus is much closer to the sun than the Earth is, so it’s much much hotter, and we have to carefully design satellites so that they can survive/ don’t melt!
