      The “wow” moments and discovering something never seen before is incredibly cool, but for me what is even better is when you teach, mentor or help others get there and then see them becoming independent researchers who are brilliant role models.

      So the best part of my job is that we get to see further by standing on the shoulders of giants!

      I love looking at rocks and minerals (crystals) down a microscope. I use incredibly powerful microscopes that can show detail that you might only dream of. I use something call an electron microscope that actually uses electrons (found in tiny atoms) to create an image of my rock sections. The shapes and colours of the tiny minerals in the rocks look incredible when viewed with a microscope!
