Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system but not in the universe. There are planets in other solar systems that orbit really really close to their stars and they can be even hotter than Venus.

Hello Qinlan! Great question. Venus is certainly very hot and is hotter than the other planets in our Solar System. We don’t yet know if it is the hottest in the universe because it’s such a large space to search! Venus is the hottest that we currently know about and it isn’t the closest planet to the Sun…which is odd : -)

We know of many planets that orbit their star even closer than Mercury and have atmospheres like Jupiter, so they should be even hotter than Venus. They are called “hot Jupiters”.
