Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. Mercury is the closest and the side facing the sun is very hot, while the side away from it is much cooler. Even though it is so close to the sun you can still find ice deep in the craters on Mercury! Venus is the second planet from the sun – it is very hot and very cloudy, with volcanoes. Then Earth is the third planet – you know all about Earth already 🙂 . And Mars is the fourth planet. Partly because Mars is further from the sun, it is cooler than Earth. It also has less atmosphere as is smaller than Earth, so less gravity too. If we were there, we would need spacesuits when we were outside to keep us warm and give us air to breath. But with lighter gravity, we could jump a bit higher!

Hello, a good way to remember the order of the planets is to make up a rhyme! I was taught: “My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Noodles” which is quite weird but it worked for me! It represents: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto! See if you can have some fun making up your own 🙂
