You would probably want to be a photon so you can be the fastest thing in the entire Universe, travelling at almost 300,000 km/s. Even then, it may take you over 20 minutes to get from the Earth to Mars if they are at the largest distance from one another, or just about 3 minutes if they are really close. This all happens as both Earth and Mars go around the Sun, but the Earth, being in an inner orbit, overtakes Mars and moves faster.

If people want to travel to Mars, they should choose very carefully when to go in order to make the trip the shortest. Earth and Mars both revolve around the sun but they are at different distances from the sun and so their trips around take different lengths of time. This means that sometimes Earth and Mars are on the same side of the sun and other times they can be on opposite sides of the sun. So if you were travelling in a rocket to Mars, you would want to wait until both planets are on the same side of the sun. Then it would take about 9 months to get to Mars with the rockets that we have at the moment.

The Earth and Mars are constantly moving, so the time to get to Mars can change quite a lot, but it normally takes about a year to get to Mars

Hello Amalia, it can take anywhere between 5 to 10 months! The time depends on how powerful the launch of the rocket is. If it’s powerful, then the rocket will get a good boost and will travel faster! Are you thinking of going? ; -)
