The radius of the Earth is 6378 kilometres. It is the fifth largest planet in the solar system. But the Earth isn’t a perfect sphere, as its rotation makes it bulgy in the middle, around the equator! So the circumference is about 40,075 km at the equator. The surface of the Earth is about 510 million square km.
Hi Amalia, scientists have worked this out how much the Earth weighs from knowing the size (volume) of the Earth and its density (that is, how much stuff is crammed into a tiny space). They believe the earth to weigh (known as ‘mass’) about 5970000000000000000000000 kilograms!! It is about 6,400 km across from the centre of the Earth to the outer edge : -)
The World as in the Universe we live in gets larger every second. Not only because the Universe is expanding (at an accelerated rate!), but also because every second that passes allows light from distant parts of the Universe to get to us, so the visible Universe gets larger and larger every day. That’s 13.7 billion light years towards any direction we look at.
Currently each one of us represents about 1 in a number made of 83 to 84 zeros! We really are cosmically insignificant and the World or the full Universe is huge (and it keeps getting bigger)
