You don’t need to go that “far”. In Venus there’s sulphuric acid rain, although that does not actually make it to the surface, but only about 25 km high in the atmosphere.
It should also make us appreciate the Earth so much more. In many ways, and perhaps seen from a long distance and without much information, Venus and the Earth are so similar, yet Earth is amazing for life while on Venus it’s incredibly hot and there’s sulphuric acid rain!
There is acid rain on Earth, which we try to clean up so it doesn’t happen too often. That’s because there is also acid rain on Venus, which is a very hot and uncomfortable planet that we couldn’t live on, so we know we don’t want that here. Lots of exoplanets that are being discovered in other solar systems also have extreme atmospheres. There is one planet that is reported to have rain of molten glass, another where there are clouds that rain pebbles and rocks! So keep an eye on the news for the latest discoveries of these, as there are some amazing planets out there! 🙂
Hello Mr K, you do ask some good questions. Acid rain can be harmful to life. Most acid rain is caused by human’s polluting the atmosphere with fossil fuels like burning coal. To reduce acid rain, we need to be a less polluting human race : -)
