Physics teaches you to think logically about things and attack problems. So it’s great when your PC, TV or other gadgets are playing up. Instead of having a hissy fit, I think about what might be wrong and see if I can do anything about it. Sometimes I can and I don’t have to take it to some shop which will cost me money. That’s just one example!
Being a scientist is very helpful as it gives me a good way to approach anything in life. Basically it gives me confidence in my own opinions since I’m already used to figuring things out by myself. Like Martin I like figuring out how things work and usually fix them myself. I don’t just believe everything I read, I think about it before coming to my own conclusions. Physics even tells me which way to connect the jumper leads if a car has a flat battery!

My daily work involves all sorts of things – verbal communication, computing, writing, analysis, critique… In all situations in life, you will end up using one or more of these skills. But overall, my job has allowed me to look at the world around us with a different set of eyes, and see what an amazing place it is 🙂
