I’m the only scientist in my family. My Dad did an electrical engineering degree and went to work for the BBC, which is kind of related I guess.

My family is full of scientists, though I don’t know if that’s why I became one. Science wasn’t my first job and I didn’t really start until I was 23. It doesn’t matter too much I don’t think, I have plenty of scientist friends who are the first in their family to do it.

My sister has a degree in Biology & Psychology and now works as an Occupational Therapist, and my cousin is a trained Geologist and works on oil rigs off the coast of Norway. My Dad is a vicar, but actually likes trying to connect science with Christianity, which surprises a lot of people!
