I don’t know exactly how it works, but I think it’s to do with the life-cycle of a star, so it’s when our sun gets to the explode-y stage. Could be worth asking in the Meitnerium Zone as I think there are some space scientists in there
All stars die, and some do explode, but our sun won’t explode. It will just slowly get bigger and brighter…. destroying the planets in our solar system until it gets so big that it turns into an area of gas which will then just get blown away. So less of an explosion, and more of a gradual fading out.
This is just from what I can remember from physics though! so predications may have changes since I learnt this… I think NASA has information pages about all of the planets & stars around us, that’d be a good place to find out more detail!
