That’s a great question — and I’m not sure of the answer. I thought my area of psychology: Social Psychology was quite large, but compared to other areas it’s actually quite small!
I would guess that people who apply psychology through their work make up most of the psychologists in the world, so people like clinical and counselling psychologists! but they probably don’t have time to do as much research as we do.
I have no idea really! Psychology is such a big subject and there are so many different types. I think most of the popular books/TV/films I’ve seen about psychology have either been about brains (neuropsychology) or how people interact with each other (social psychology), so maybe one of those is most popular in terms of what non-psychologists are interested in.
In terms of how many people work in each type, I’d agree with Jack and say it’s probably people who apply psychology to their work, but I don’t really know (I’d be interested to find out!).
