I’m not sure — I think it depends on what you count as a ‘part’ of the brain. In my studies I’ve only really focused on two areas: Wernicke’s & Broca’s areas. Those are the places where speech is developed and produced.

Agreeing with Jack, it depends what you mean by parts. There are two hemispheres to the brain (the left and right), but you could also split the brain up into three parts – the forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain. Then there are different regions, like Broca’s or Wernicke’s.

Like the other said, it depends a bit what you mean by ‘parts’ because you can divide up the brain in different ways. The biggest part of the brain (the bit you think of when you think of what a ‘brain’ is) is called the cerebrum. It is divided into two halves (called “hemispheres”) and each half has different areas (“lobes”). The different lobes have specialised bits in them, but they also all work together to get things done. The general things each lobe does are:

      – Frontal lobe (at the front of the brain) – personality, emotions, speaking & writing
      – Parietal lobe (towards the back top part of the brain) – sorts information about taste, touch, temperature
      – Occipital lobe (at the very back of the brain) – vision
      – Temporal lobe (at the side of the brain) – hearing, understanding language

The two other parts of the brain along with the cerebrum are:
      – The cerebellum – a smaller bit just under the cerebrum that does things like balance and muscle movements
      – The brainstem – controls all the things you do without thinking like breathing, digesting food, and sleepiness
