      Here’s my previous reply though:

      It’s incredibly varied. I don’t work in the lab these days, but most days are a mixture of developing new ideas, reading about the latest research, answering emails, talking to people, lecturing, writing papers and articles, participating on committees (euch!), and making sense of new scientific information.

      It depends what kind of experiments I’ve got going at the time…

      Sometimes you have really lab-heavy weeks, where you’re always sorting out cells or samples and you’re constantly on your feet 9-6 (or 8-8 and 9-10 as my last 2 days went!!). Other times you’re doing more computer stuff; maybe writing a paper, researching a new angle, using online resources etc.

      Science is quite diverse, which is one of the good things I think – if you’re having a tough time in the lab, work on something on the computer for a bit and come back with new enthusiasm to get things done.
